WHAT SHOULD YOU DO IN AN ?

First Aid in Trauma Cases

1. Send someone to call the The Animal Emergency & Referral Center of Central Iowa to alert them that you will be bringing your pet in as soon as you can get him/her in the car! Phone number (515) 280-3051.

2. Put a muzzle (nylon stocking, masking tape, etc. ) on your pet if he/she is injured. Use caution, as if he/she is in pain you may get bitten as you try to help.

3. If your pet cannot walk, slide a blanket or piece of board under him/her to use as a stretcher.

4. If your pet can walk, assist him/her into the car with support under the chest or hindquarters.

5. If there is bleeding, press firmly at the site of the bleeding. Cover the area with a pack made from gauze, handkerchief, or paper towels, etc..
