Brent Reimer, DVM, ACVS joined the AERCCI in 2007 as the staff surgeon. He achieved Diplomate status with the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2003. Dr. Reimer attended the University of Iowa where he majored in biology and botany. He received his DVM degree from Iowa State University in 1999 and subsequently performed a one-year small-animal internship at Michigan State University. He next completed a three-year residency in small-animal surgery at the University of California, Davis. Following his residency, he served on the faculty of Iowa State University for approximately three years.
Neurosurgery: Surgery for intervertebral disc disease (“ruptured disc” in the back),lumbosacral disorders, spinal fractures, intracranial tumors, cervical vertebral disorders.
Arthroscopy: This diagnostic procedure is done with an endoscope which has a fibreoptic tip on it to examine the interior of a joint. This is a minimally invasive diagnosis for the treatment of elbow dysplasia, osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) lesions of the hip and knee, etc.
Laparoscopy & Thoracoscopy: Minimally invasive approach for surgical exploration, treatment and obtainment of diagnostic biopsies for a myriad of diseases including liver diseases, pericardial diseases, and kidney diseases using an endoscope.
Surgical Oncology: Surgical diagnosis and treatment of neoplastic (“cancerous”) diseases.
Reconstructive Surgery: Cosmetic and functional restoration following traumatic or surgical events necessitating skin flap, skin graft or muscular graft transportation.
TPLO: (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) commonly used to correct cranial cruciate ligament disease or rupture. This is a state-of-the-art surgical procedure that allows the most near-normal biomechanical return to function with the least amount of ongoing degenerative joint changes. Dr. Reimer has vast skill and success in performing over 200 TPLO procedures.
